The Three Bridges Between Serbia and China

Catalina, director of the China Center of John Nesbitt University in Belgrade, once said: "There are three 'bridges' between China and Serbia". Many people may only know one bridge, that is, the classic film "Bridge" in the former Yugoslavia. In fact, there are two other "bridges", namely the "Chinese Bridge" built by Chinese companies and the "Chinese Bridge" that has caused Chinese popularity in Serbia.

Today, the editor will give you a detailed introduction to these three bridges."

The Movie "Bridge"

"Bridge" is a Yugoslav color feature film, Serbia's name is Мост, produced in 1969. In 1977, he was translated and produced by the Beijing Film Studio of China and introduced into the country. The theme song of this movie "Ah! Goodbye friends! 》 Has also become a well-known and well-known song. Everyone will sing the melody of "Ah, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye ~"

This timeless red classic tells the story of Germany ’s defeat on the Eastern Front in 1944. It was dedicated to dealing with the guerrilla SS Colonel Dr. Hoffman, who was ordered to defend the Dudvicatara Bridge in Yugoslavia. The German forces withdrew from Greece.

The Yugoslav guerrilla major "Tiger" received an order to blow up the bridge on time on the seventh day at 8 a.m. "Tiger" led several guerrillas to rescue the engineer who designed the bridge from the Germans. After all the hardships and difficulties, the bridge was successfully blown up.

The introduction of this movie had a profound impact on the domestic people at that time. "Beijing Times" once wrote such a sentence: If someone thinks that the "Southern Expedition", "Land War" and "Underground War" in the 1950s and 1960s were "the mainland's film's understanding of history and war" Then, the emergence of "Bridge" is an "innovation" - bringing a new aesthetic and culture to Chinese audiences and opening up thinking.

Every year, the China Center of John Nesbit University in Belgrade receives more than 10 Chinese university students who come to study Serbian, "Ah! Goodbye friends! "Almost every time it becomes the finale program of the Chinese student's farewell party. Whenever students from China and Serbia sing this song together, the friendship between China and Serbia will once again penetrate into everyone's heart.

Bridge Across Danube

On December 18th, 2014, the Belgrade “Zemun-Borcha” Bridge on the Danube was constructed by China Road and Bridge Engineering Co and it was successfully completed. This is Serbia's first bridge built on the Danube in the last 70 years. Many locals call this bridge the "Chinese Bridge".

The Zemun-Borcha Bridge is located in Belgrade, Serbia, across the Danube. The bridge is designed to be 1499 meters in length, 29.1 meters in width, and 22.8 meters in height. It is divided into four parts: the south approach bridge, the main bridge, the beach bridge, and the north approach bridge. The Zemun-Borcha Bridge is the first bridge built by Chinese construction companies in Europe, and the first infrastructure project completed since the “16 + 1” cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries.

The completion of the bridge not only brought great convenience to Belgrade's urban transportation but also facilitated the daily passage of people on both sides of the strait. It also drove the local employment situation and raised the economic level. After that, China and Serbia also cooperated to promote a series of important projects in infrastructure, energy, industry, telecommunications, and other fields, and will further expand all-round economic and trade and investment cooperation in the future. The "China Bridge" is not only a bridge of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation between China and Europe, but also a bridge of friendship between the people of China and Serbia.

Chinese Bridge

I believe you have seen many videos of Serbian friends expressing gratitude to the Chinese people in Chinese. Indeed, there are not many people who learn Chinese in Serbia. Although thousands of miles away from China, the Serbian people have long loved China and Chinese culture.

For example, Natasha, who has been engaged in Chinese teaching and research, mentioned the story of why she chose to learn Chinese in an interview with a reporter from China Youth Daily. Natasha ’s grandfather was an old Communist in Yugoslavia. When she was a child, she often heard stories of the Chinese people ’s resistance to aggression and nation-building.

Unfortunately, until the old man dies, there is no chance to come to China that he has always dreamed of. When Natasha applied for university, she did not hesitate to choose the Chinese Language and Literature major as a remembrance of Grandpa, but she refused his long-cherished wish. Later, Natasha came to The Beijing Normal University to continue her studies and obtained a doctorate in ancient Chinese philosophy.

This shows that the friendship left by the older generation in the last two centuries still deeply affects the young people in Serbia today. Today, several universities in Serbia have opened Confucius Institutes and China Centers. They are committed to enhancing exchanges and cooperation in academic, cultural, political, and economic fields between China and Serbia through Chinese language teaching and various academic and cultural activities.
